Construction Manager

Onyx is seeking a Construction Manager to join our team as we guide clients along the path to clean energy for users throughout the United States.

Reporting to the Director of Project Management on the East Coast, the Construction Manager is responsible for the technical oversight and enforcement of installation and quality standards of all construction activities with a rapidly growing company with national operations. The ability to work both independently and as a team member are critical, as well as the innovative mindset to operate as an important contributor within a fast-paced company environment.

Primary Responsibilities:

Construction Leadership

  • Work closely to prioritize key activities on 50+ projects in various stages from design through close out
  • Ensure that proper construction procedures are followed, to include Environmental, Safety and Health, Quality, and workmanship
  • Travel regularly to jobsites throughout the US to provide thorough progress reports to Project Management
  • Assist Project Managers in enforcing quality project execution, identification of project concerns, and problem solving
  • Coordinate with Engineering to ensure projects are properly designed, planned and completed
  • Work with QA/QC team to ensure all the closing phase requirements are met
  • Work with the Project Management, Project Engineering, and Pre-Construction teams to identify technical areas of concern and solutions
  • Identify and qualify regional construction partners
  • Be a subject matter expert regarding installation procedures and apply this expertise to projects and share knowledge with Project Managers

Process Management

  • Develop standards, methods-of-procedures, Safety Plans and other procedures for quality project execution
  • Create, manage and track Operational improvement measures and Key Performance Indicators
  • Identify solutions and strategies that improve operational performance
  • Prioritize department initiatives to ensure internal/external stakeholders needs are met
  • Monitor regular or recurring issues and concerns, and develop corrective action plans

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree. Engineering, Construction Management, or formal training in commercial and industrial electrical installation
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive solar construction leadership experience
  • Strong history of delivering solar construction projects on time and on budget
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and oversee numerous construction sites simultaneously
  • Proven ability to review engineering designs, scopes of work, commissioning plans
  • Strong organizational skills to manage the activities of internal and external resources
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to interface smoothly at senior management levels internally and externally
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • OSHA 30 certification
  • NABCEP PV Associate or Installation Professional
  • Experienced with Salesforce, Microsoft Office, Project Budgeting and Project Schedules

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active or prior electrician’s license
  • Familiarity with SolarGrade inspection software

  • Highly organized, detail oriented, and proactive in identifying challenges during installation
  • Willing to travel to jobsites for regular jobsite visits
  • Communicates effectively with onsite personnel (electricians, installers, etc.)
  • Patient and professional in deadline-driven situations
  • Adept in identifying and resolving technical and process issues as they relate to construction projects
  • Highly results-driven, with a strong work ethic and commitment to the company’s overall success
  • Builds trust by demonstrating high ethical standards, personal integrity, and commitment to quality
  • Analytical problem solver who views obstacles as opportunities and creates solutions to systemic problems
  • Creative thinker who generates new and different ideas
  • Self-motivated, self-starter who can work independently when necessary
  • Strong team orientation and demonstrated client management skills
