Onyx Renewables Completes 1MW Rooftop & Ground Mount Solar Facility for Passaic County, NJ

New York, NY – Onyx Renewable Partners is pleased to announce the completion of its 345th project with the energization of a 1MW mixed rooftop and ground mount solar energy system for the Preakness Healthcare Center located in Passaic County, NJ.

The completed project at Preakness Healthcare Center is expected to generate nearly 1,170 MWh of energy in its first year of operation, offsetting 22.5% of the energy used by the facility. Onyx estimates that the adoption of solar energy will save the County over $1MM in utility costs. “The solar facility at Preakness Healthcare Center will significantly help Passaic County toward its macro sustainability goals,” said Mary Beth Mandanas, CEO of Onyx. “The project is a testament to our joint commitment to provide clean energy to communities, thereby reducing the carbon footprint while also providing valuable savings that can now be applied toward other County resources.” The solar energy produced at the Preakness Healthcare Center will help reduce carbon emissions by offsetting approximately 12,000 metric tons of CO2 over the project’s 15-year lifetime – the equivalent of planting ~198,000 trees over ten years or taking ~2,600 cars off the road for one year.

“The Passaic County Commissioners are committed to investing in the County’s infrastructure and green technology with the vision of creating efficiency and sustainability,” stated Passaic County Commissioner Bruce James. “Investing in solar energy for one of the County’s largest facilities not only provides savings on utility costs, but also supports the Board’s conservative budgeting practices with taxpayers in mind.” Onyx and Passaic County also successfully secured financing through the State of New Jersey’s Transition Incentive Program to maximize the system’s economic benefits.

“It was a pleasure working with Onyx Renewables on this project, which will set a standard for future County sustainability initiatives,” noted Andrew Thompson, County Architect within Passaic’s Department of Engineering.

The solar facility at Preakness Healthcare Center is the latest addition to Onyx’s growing portfolio of renewable energy assets across the United States. With a focus on solar and storage, Onyx is committed to delivering clean energy solutions that benefit both the environment and its customers nationwide.
